Dr. Lin Fraser has an EdD in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco, an M.A. in Counseling from San Francisco State and a B.A. in Psychology from Duke.
She is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT8288) and as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC 1816) in California and is certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC17402). She is also certified as a Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC553) and is trained in online therapy.
She has been in private practice for over 40 years.
In addition to her general psychotherapy practice, she has developed an international reputation as a leading expert in transgender identity issues. She currently serves as the immediate Past President of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health). She is on the Standards of Care Committee with responsibilities for developing revised standards for adult psychotherapy and web-based care. She is also on the editorial board of the International Journal of Transgenderism and is co-chair of WPATH’s Global Education Initiative.
Dr. Fraser has also developed an expertise in addiction-related concerns, combining the 12-Step Approach with psychodynamic and Jungian theory and therapy.
Compatible with her extensive international background and facility with cross-cultural issues, many of her clients identify as expats or are bicultural.
Her general background is fairly broad, encompassing work in university teaching, training and supervision of master’s and doctoral- level psychology, counseling and theology students, as well as psychiatry residents.
She has a history of working in community mental health, doing corporate training, serving as an expert witness, presenting at conferences and workshops, doing interviews for media -films, TV, radio and print, and serving on various committees for her professional associations.
She has developed and taught text and video training materials in counseling and intercultural communication skills for an international airline. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Fraser offers workshops, corporate training, and academic classes and is available as an expert witness or consultant to attorneys in her area of expertise.
She also serves as a consultant on issues relating to boy education to an independent boys school.
